Name: Billy Butcher
Door: Left

Canon: The Boys
Canon Point: Late season three, after joining with Soldier Boy.
Age: 46
Appearance: Wikia gallery here, but he's a well-built human.

History: Wikia Link
CR AU (Optional): N/A

Personality:
Humane: As unlikely as it may seem, Billy Butcher has something of a moral code that keeps him in line. It's a flawed code, and he has trouble sticking to it, but we've occasionally seen Butcher falter before committing truly heinous acts throughout the series, unable to bring himself to cross certain lines. He is unable to sell out his wife's son, even when the plan is fully in motion, because his conscience doesn't allow him too. He's also can't let Hughie continue to take a drug that risks killing him, even when having Hughie at his side and high on V would benefit him.

Granted, these are small lights in an otherwise pitch black sky, but it proves that Billy has loyalty and love for those close to him, even when he actively harms them. At one point, he's openly cruel to his wife's son, blaming him for his wife's death. Later on, however, he apologizes for his words and admits that he'd only been trying to push Ryan away out of fear of not being a good father figure in his life.

His naturally dark disposition necessitates the likes of Mother's Milk (Marvin) and Hughie Campbell to be close to him, both of whom he relies upon for guidance. The fact that he has people in his life that keep him on a good* path is what stops him from being monstrously inhumane.

*One may argue that making a career out of killing superheroes isn't especially good, and one would be right, but he'd be far worse without his team behind him.

Ruthless: Butcher is ruthless and relentless in the pursuit of his goals. He's been on a revenge quest for over ten years, and the number of people who've died as a result of this [whether directly or indirectly] is likely in the hundreds. He believes superheroes have too much power and thus need to be killed in order to prevent them from harming others. As such, he's targeted, kidnapped, tortured, blown up, melted, and blackmailed superheroes with next to no regard for their lives. Tipping on the darker side of this morally grey spectrum, he has very little compassion for superheroes and would easily beat a superhero to death with his bare hands without batting an eyelash.

This merciless drive is due in part to his need to see things through to the end, but also is the result of a lifetime of rage and violence, leaving him desensitized to horrors that most would cower from. In his youth, he was constantly beaten by an abusive, alcoholic father. In his young adult years, he joined the military and steeped himself in combat. While he briefly found peace during his marriage, an unidentifiable anger always sat below the surface.

It doesn't help that Billy seems to genuinely enjoy 'justified' violence. While he'd never cheer on an exploding school bus full of children, he'd likely tell his teammate they've done a good job if/when they blow the head off a supe.

Manipulative: Billy lies. He lies a lot. His end goal of destroying Homelander, Vought, and superheroes as we know them is so important to him that he's largely indifferent to the harm he has to inflict on others to get there. When it comes to supes, that harm tends to be physical, but he's also not afraid to lie to and manipulate his friends and allies when he feels the need to.

When he first meets Hughie, he lies with the fake credentials of an FBI agent, since he [correctly] believes this will make Hughie trust him more quickly. He also uses Hughie's guilt and heartbreak surrounding his recently deceased girlfriend as a tool to get Hughie to do what he needs, only mentioning Robin when it felt as if Hughie might pull away. Marvin and Frenchie are used to his tactics, but they aren't immune. He's able to manipulate Marvin by promising him revenge on the man on who killed his family, only to knock Marv unconscious and use that same man to [unsuccessfully] try and kill Homelander.

When it comes to making plans, he only tells people as much as they need to know, keeping the full picture to himself, as it's usually a lot darker and more deranged than he lets on.

Codependent: Harkening back to his need for an external moral compass, Butcher has been incredibly codependent throughout his life and remains that way to this day. When left to his own devices, Butcher is known to make reckless decisions - drinking, drugs, self-harm by way of picking unnecessary fights and getting his ass handed to him as a result. He's his best self when he's with others, when he has someone who tells him no.

In childhood, he was close to his brother, someone who quite literally pulled him away from fights when things boiled over. As an adult, he found that same savior in his late wife, Becca, who he credits for making him a 'good' man, and even she acknowledged that Billy was living on the edge, ready to snap at a moment's notice. With Becca, Billy managed to be an upright, clean-cut member of society. It's only after losing her that he gave into violence, crime, and murder.

His team has consistently been composed of Frenchie and Mother's Milk, both of whom he credits with keeping him grounded. In addition to his old friends, he now has Hughie, someone who he views as a replacement for his late brother. In Hughie, Butcher sees a chance to correct the mistakes of his past and save someone the way he was unable to save his brother. Butcher also takes joy in introducing Hughie to a life of crime and muck, happy to both take someone under his wing and have the opportunity to share his world of depravity with another.

Powers and Abilities: No supernatural powers, just handy with a weapon (gun, baseball bat, bare hands, etc) and pretty good at thinking on his feet.
Inventory: Glock 19, a crowbar, a burner cell phone.
